Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States and deciding where to stay can get overwhelming. Here’s our breakdown on best neighborhoods to fit your itinerary and the best hotels we’ve found deals in for under $200.00 a night.
LAX – If you’re flying in on a red eye, or planning to spend most of your time in the Southern part of LA (Westchester, Carson, Torrance, or even Redondo Beach) hotels in this area will be best for you.
Our recommendation: Hyatt Regency LAX – The hotel rooms are clean, spacious, and blocks out much of the airport noise next door. The hotel has a great restaurant, pool and the fitness center overlooks the runway so you can be on the treadmill while watching the planes take off and land. Search and compare the top hotels near LAX.
Hollywood/West Hollywood – Stay in this area if you’re planning to visit Sunset Blvd, The Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Hollywood Bowl, or even Universal Studios. Due to the high demand of people wanting to stay near the area, you can find great competitive deals days before your check-in. Below our top Hollywood/West Hollywood picks.
Mama Shelter – This is a great, trendy, boutique hotel and there are so many positives to staying here. You can walk everywhere! The hotel has a great restaurant and the best part of staying here is the rooftop bar with a 360 degree view of Hollywood. The rooftop bar has comfortable couches where you can relax and socialize. A great meeting spot if you have friends or family in the area. On certain nights they will show movies on the rooftops (we got the pleasure of watching Purple Rain). Parking is inexpensive ($15.00) less than two blocks away or you can valet. Another added bonus is the reading material next to your bedside. You can read Keith Richards autobiography, The Bible, and movie scripts from Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski or Swingers.
Days Inn on Sunset – A great choice for Hollywood on a budget. There are no fancy bells and whistles but they’ve remodeled half of their rooms and are clean. Stay here if you’re looking to rest your head from a long day. There is parking on site and you can walk to get food at the nearby In-N-Out burger.
Best Western Plus on Sunset – We love this hotel! If you’re staying near the pool, it’s very romantic with ivy growing up the building, french doors and beautiful flowers everywhere. The rooms are fairly spacious compared to most and clean. There is no restaurant on-site but you can have food delivered to your room from the nearby Saddle Ranch across the street.
Our favorite thing about this hotel, it’s across the street from The World Famous Comedy Store. They have stand-up acts from Pauly Shore, Jeff Garlin, Tony Hinchcliffe, Marc Maron, Joe Rogan, Brent Morin, and surprise drop-ins from Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock on any given night. Downtown Los Angeles – Stay in DTLA if you’re visiting for work, going to a Laker’s game at the Staples Center, or need to be in the Down Town area for a convention. Hollywood and Santa Monica are easily a 45 minute drive with traffic and wouldn’t recommend this area if you have no business being here.
The Hotel – The hotel will shock you with how large it is on the inside. Each room has floor to ceiling windows and if positioned correctly you can have the best view of Downtown LA at night with the skyscrapers and lights.
The Athletic Club – We give this boutique hotel the “funnest hotel” award. The Athletic Club dates back to 1880 and was the city’s first private club when the population of LA was 11,000. There are 12 floors to explore and you’ll find racquetball courts, an indoor Olympic pool, basketball courts, handball courts, and a running track to name a few. The best part about staying here is the open rooftop. Grab a preferred beverage of your choice and walk up to the roof for the best 360 degree views of Downtown! Watching the sunset here is truly magical and needed for your soul. Find the best hotels in LA with Skyscanner!
Universal City – Stay in this area if you’re headed to Universal Studios, City Walk, The Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood and Burbank.
Sheraton Universal – One of our favorites! Floor to ceiling windows with amazing views that make you not want to leave your comfortable bed. Hotel is luxurious, clean, spacious and has great photography from Hollywood actors, movie sets and all things relating to Universal Studios. The rooms have a retro but modern feel and we want to live here if we could.hotel deals across Los Angeles here.
Malibu | Santa Monica – If you’re looking to stay near Malibu and Santa Monica, there are not many hotel options for under $200.00. You can find great accommodations through HomeAway, check out their Vacation Rentals under $75. Topanga Canyon is a great area to stay that is close to Malibu, Santa Monica, the mountains and state beaches. It’s also a great area to stay if you’re looking for some tranquility outside of the city.
Beverly Hills | Century City | Santa Monica – Finding a quality hotel in this area for under $200.00 is not common. We do have one pick that is a favorite of ours and can be easily accessible.
Hotel Angeleno – One of our favorites, stay here if you’re unsure where to stay and need access to multiple freeways. In a day and age where everyone expects a handout this place does not allow tipping. To be honest, it’s nice to not have to worry about this. Their philosophy is they compensate their employees so we don’t have to. They also have a happy hour from 5:30-6:30PM daily with free beer and wine. The restaurant at the top floor has great views into downtown LA and beyond. Rooms are always clean, modern, and have all the amenities you could need.
